The Bereavement Counselling Charity

Our trained counsellors can enable people to come to terms with the emotional and practical changes bereavement brings, helping to normalise these intense feelings and to promote well-being.

We believe that by respecting and connecting with the grief of an individual, we can support a person's journey of change following their loss.

At The Bereavement Counselling Charity we’re raising funds to provide an affordable counselling sevice to the following areas:

Denmead, East Hampshire, Emsworth, Havant, Hayling Island, North Portsmouth and Waterlooville.

Please join us by supporting our efforts to make a measurable difference in the lives of others.

How we can help

When we lose someone close to us, the pain can be unbearable. Getting through each day may feel impossible. Death is a common experience and inevitable for us all, yet it remains one of the most difficult topics to talk about.

About

Our Roots

We are a local, independent charity, formed in 1989 as the Havant Area Bereavement Group. The idea for the group came about as there was no provision for bereavement support in the area. Our founders were working in the social services sector and were struggling to offer advice to those in need, so they set up the group to meet the needs of the community.
In 2002 we were awarded the prestigious Queen's Golden Jubilee Award for Services to the Community.
We have been supported by a number of funding organisations and these contributions have helped us train and support our volunteers in this valuable work.

We are listed in The Counselling Directory www.counselling-directory.org.uk

"My Counsellor was exactly what I needed during a very difficult time and I was grateful that the assessor selected a therapist who she felt would suit me. I felt able to talk about anything at all and never felt judged. Having the sessions on Zoom made them very easy to access.”
