Our History

We are a local, independent charity, formed in 1989 as the Havant Area Bereavement Group. The idea for the group came about as there was no provision for bereavement support in the area. Our founders were working in the social services sector and were struggling to offer advice to those in need, so they set up the group to meet the needs of the community.

Originally the services we offered were support groups for bereaved adults but over time our emphasis changed to be a counselling service not only for adults, but also children and young people.

In 2003 we were awarded the prestigious Queen's Golden Jubilee Award for Services to the Community.

We have been supported by a number of funding agencies including Children in Need and St James's Place Foundation, and these contributions have helped us train and support our volunteers in this valuable work.
